The custom of blessing of the animals is conducted in remembrance of Saint Francis of Assisi’s love for all creatures. Born into the family of a wealthy merchant, Francis gave up his inheritance to serve poor people. He formed the Order of Friars Minor (called Franciscans), who took on poverty and the task of preaching "using words if necessary." Francis had a spirit of gratitude for all of God's creation. The blessing of the animals will be on Sunday, October 12th, at 12:00 PM. And since a pet blessing can be difficult for those who have lost dear pets, please consider bringing a photo-graph to the blessing so that we can remember them together. We hope you can join us!
